Students Work on Cultural Gardens

In the past two months, Hawken School’s seventh-graders have secured approval for plans that will significantly change both the look and environmental landscape of University Circle’s Cultural Gardens. In February, the students got unanimous approval for their Master Conceptual Plan for the American Cultural Garden, one of the 23 gardens in Rockefeller Park that celebrate and express America’s varied ethnic heritages.  The American Garden was originally.

Two Schools, One Newspaper

When Kate Klonowski, head of Urban Scholastic Media Initiative, came up with the idea to partner Hawken Upper School and Shaw High School students with an interest in journalism for a joint writing venture, the intent of the program was as much about the process as it was the end product. “In a way, both of the schools have isolation issues,” Klonowski commented when asked about.

Money Matters

In these difficult economic times, families are struggling just to make ends meet. Many residents, particularly those in underserved communities, are frustrated with social service and financial systems that are difficult to access and often do not cater to their diverse needs. Many residents rely on money center services and payday lenders that often charge high fees for services many banks offer for free. Perhaps financial missteps.

Teen Student Interviews County Medical Examiner

For some time now, I’ve wanted to be a medical examiner. I guess all those crime scene investigation TV shows, like "Criminal Minds," got to me. When I told my mother about my latest career choice, she went digging through the Web for summer programs, internships — whatever. That is when she came across the High School Shadowing Program. The program is coordinated by the medical examiner.

Tutoring is Best Part of Resident’s Week

I have just returned from what may be the most satisfying time of my week. It was the two hours I spend each Thursday morning with a second-grade girl at Buckeye-Woodland School. Network for Neighborhood Success Continues to Grow

Lisa Davis founded Network for Neighborhood Success back in 2006. Her idea? To help youth from her neighborhood connect to the resources and jobs right in the neighborhood and to help prepare them for college. Central Arts Group Committed to Community

Foluke Cultural Arts Center, led by Dava Cansler, is a force to be reckoned with in the Central community. Cansler founded the center years ago as a dance faith-based ministry with a focus on the community. The organization expanded after Cansler conducted a survey in the community to see if the residents would be interested in an arts program. The results showed a hunger for an artistic outlet, Cansler said. “I saw the arts as.

Student Loan Repayment Based on Income, Not Loan Amount

I have a friend I’ll call Morgan Rachelle Jones. She goes by Rachelle. For years there was a certain ritual that went on between her and her land-line phone. If the caller, a stranger, asked for "Morgan," she would say, "He's not home.” This usually confused the caller, who would ask, "Huh? Is Morgan a man or a woman?” And suddenly, Ms. Morgan Rachelle Jones turned into.
